Mapping credit saturation around the world
MIMOSA is a standard, comparable framework for measuring credit saturation in retail and microfinance markets – built from the broadest set of borrowing data assembled to date.
About the project
What is MIMOSA?
The MIMOSA project was created to fill a critical gap in the retail credit sector – the absence of a standard, comparable framework for measuring credit saturation across markets. Developed by Emmanuelle Javoy and Daniel Rozas, MIMOSA draws on the World Bank Global Findex survey, local supply-side data from central banks and microfinance associations, and original field surveys of potential borrowers in multiple countries.
By combining these three data tiers, MIMOSA generates a more accurate and consistent measure of credit penetration than any single source can provide – one that applies equally to traditional retail lending across all emerging and developing markets.
The MIMOSA score
One index, six levels
The primary score evaluates the degree to which the level of penetration exceeds estimated market capacity.
